3ds Max(原名:3D Studio Max),是Autodesk傳媒娛樂部開發的全功能的三維計算機圖形軟體。它運行在Win32和Win64平台上。最初的3D Studio產品由Yost Group為DOS平台制作,由Autodesk發行。Autodesk從第二版開始買下接下來兩個版本的標誌和核心開發。在3D Studio Release 4後,產品轉到Windows NT平台,名字改為「3D Studio MAX」。此版本還是Yost Group製作,由從Autodesk拆分的Kinetix發行。稍後,產品名稱改為「3ds max」(全小寫字母),為了符合位於蒙特婁的Discreet公司的命名標準。之後Discreet被Autodesk收購,在第八版產品又重新打上Autodesk的標誌,名稱又變為「3ds Max」(大小寫字母)。
在Windows NT出現以前,工業級的CG製作被SGI圖形工作站所壟斷。3D Studio Max + Windows NT組合的出現一下子降低了CG製作的門檻,首選開始運用在電腦遊戲中的動畫製作,後更進一步開始參與影視片的特效製作,例如X戰警II,最後的武士等。除外,朱邦復工作室所開發的「導演平臺」也是以Plug-In方式建立在這個軟體上。
3ds Max 是由 Autodesk 公司推出的專業 3D 動畫軟體, 3ds Max 的應用相當廣泛,在電影特效、遊戲製作、建築工程、教育研究、醫學模擬、工業設計等領域上,皆可看到使用 3ds Max 製作的實際案例。
動畫的製作流程:企劃 > 腳本 > 分鏡 > 建模 > 材質 > 燈光 > 攝影機 > 動畫 > 輸出影片 > 後製作。
